Fruit chaat is a super refreshing fruit salad mostly eaten in Iftar during the month of Ramadan in Pakistan. It is made with the combination of sweet, spicy and tangy seasonal fruits and a seasoning of chaat masala and black pepper, but it tastes equally good without any dressing or seasoning. Some people add orange juice or imli chutney or beans to their versions, while others like making it sweet by adding cream and sugar. Each version brings unique taste. My mother likes mixing chickpeas in her chaat which makes it a wholesome and tasty meal.
Fruit chaat is also a perfect side dish for any event, barbeques, picnics or potlucks. I used the fruits I had on hand; you can also make this chaat using single fruit.

Can I make this fruit chaat in advance?
Yes, this chaat can be easily made in advance and stored in refrigerator up to 2 days in a sealed container. Add bananas and other soft fruits right before serving; otherwise, it will change the color and get soft and mushy.
Recipe Notes:
- You can use any kind of fruits you like.
- You can also add some fresh orange juice for more flavor.
- If you don’t like it very spicy, just skip the black pepper.
- Let the chaat sit for 10 to 15 minutes in refrigerator, it helps release the juices for juicy chaat.
- Add bananas right before serving; otherwise, it will change the color and get soft and mushy.
- Black salt or kala namak can also be added.
- You can totally skip chaat masala and reduce the quantity of black pepper if you’re making it for kids.
- I used jaggery powder or gur instead of white sugar, you could also use maple syrup.
